This stand is taking the Solihull Food Festival by storm

The Solihull Food Festival has plenty of food stalls to choose from, whether you are looking for something savoury, sweet or a little different.

One stand that caught our attention was On The Stick, with its colourful menu of Korean-style street food, cheesy options, fries and desserts.

There were plenty of people around the stand when we arrived, so we decided to see what all the fuss was about and bring a selection back to the office to share.

We went for the Classic, Mozza Dog, Mozza & Cheddar and Half & Half, with each costing £8.50.

What to expect if you have never tried one

If you have never had this type of Korean street food before, expect a crispy outside with a soft, hot centre.

The texture is a big part of it, with the crunchy coating giving way to the filling inside. The cheesy options are particularly indulgent, with plenty of melted cheese, while the different combinations mean there is something for people who want something more savoury too.

They are also very filling, so one can easily make a substantial festival snack.

The Classic

The Classic is a good place to start if you want something straightforward.

It has the crisp coating and savoury filling that makes the dish so satisfying, with plenty of crunch when you bite into it.

It is simple, but it works, particularly when combined with one of the sauces from the stand.

The Mozza Dog

The Mozza Dog is the choice for mozzarella fans.

The hot mozzarella becomes soft and stretchy inside, creating that satisfying cheese pull when you bite into it.

The crispy outside works really well with the melted cheese, giving you a mixture of crunch and gooeyness in every bite.

The Mozza & Cheddar

The Mozza & Cheddar takes the cheese even further.

You get the combination of mozzarella and cheddar, making this one of the richer options on the menu.

The melted cheese works brilliantly with the crispy coating and was one of our favourites when we brought the food back to the office.

The Half & Half

The Half & Half gives you a mixture of flavours in one serving.

It is a good option if you want to try both sides of the menu rather than sticking entirely with cheese.

You get the contrast between the savoury filling and the melted mozzarella, with the crispy outside tying everything together.

There is plenty more to choose from

Our four choices are only part of the menu.

On The Stick also offers Mozza & Fries, Fries Dog, Half & Half & Fries and Half & Half & Classic.

That means you can go for something more focused on the cheese, add fries into the mix or combine different fillings depending on what you fancy.

There is enough variety that you could easily come back and try something completely different next time.

Do not hold back on the sauces

One of the things we particularly liked was the freedom with the sauces.

You can have as much drizzle as you want, so you can cover your food rather than getting a tiny amount on top.

We went for sweet chilli and honey mustard, and both worked really well.

The sweet chilli gives the food a sweet kick, while the honey mustard adds a creamy, tangy flavour.

The sauces also help change the flavour of each option, so you can try the same food with completely different combinations.

There are desserts too

If you have room after all that, On The Stick also has dessert options and sweet treats.

So you can make a proper stop of it, starting with something savoury before finishing with something sweet.

It is a useful option if you are visiting the festival with a group, as there is plenty of choice rather than everyone having to order the same thing.

We took them back to the office

We brought all four of our choices back to the office to share, which gave everyone the chance to try something different.

It was a good way of getting a taste of the different options, particularly because the Mozza Dog, Mozza & Cheddar and Half & Half all offer something different.

The food was hot, crispy and full of flavour, while the sauces made it even better.

After seeing the number of people gathered around the stand, we can understand why it had caught our attention in the first place.
