Halloween is almost here, and families across Solihull have a packed choice of half-term activities before the big night on Saturday, 31 October.

From picking pumpkins at a local farm to exploring historic gardens after dark, there are events for younger children, older kids and adults looking for a Halloween night out.

Here are some of the best Halloween events in and around Solihull this week, including dates, prices and how to book.

1. Halloween at the Barn at Berryfields Farm

Where: Berryfields Farm, Berkswell Road, Meriden

When: Saturday, 24 October to Saturday, 31 October

Price: £5 per person, with a family ticket for four priced at £19. Pumpkins cost extra.

For a traditional autumn day out, Berryfields Farm is hosting its Halloween at the Barn event, with pumpkin picking in a five-acre field and additional seasonal attractions.

Visitors can choose their own pumpkins, explore a maze, meet farm animals and enjoy food and drink. Other activities include synthetic skating and seasonal entertainment.

The farm is also holding a special late-night pumpkin-picking event on Thursday, 29 October, from 7pm. The £11 ticket includes entry, live music and a marshmallow to toast, while pumpkins, food and other activities cost extra.

How to book: Visit the Halloween at the Barn guide for the event details and booking information.

2. Children's Halloween Lantern Walks at Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens

Where: Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens, Chester Road

When: Wednesday, 28 October to Friday, 30 October, from 5pm

Price: £12 for one child and one adult, including a hot chocolate for the child; additional adults cost £5 each.

Children can explore Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens after dark on a guided Halloween trail featuring lanterns, spooky stories and eerie characters.

The experience is aimed at children aged five to 10, with families following a route to find the Good Witch and escape the gardens. Costumes are welcome, although organisers warn that there may be the occasional jump scare.

The trail lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes, and families can arrive from 4.30pm.

How to book: Book the Children's Halloween Lantern Walk.

3. Halloween Zombie Survival at Touchwood

Where: Touchwood shopping centre, Solihull

When: Monday, 26 October to Friday, 30 October

Price: £5 per child

Children aged seven and over can take part in a Minecraft-inspired zombie survival challenge at Touchwood this half-term.

The 50-minute activity takes place on Jubilee Walk, where participants use laptops, keyboards and mice to work together, build defences and survive a virtual zombie invasion.

Sessions run at 10am, 11am, noon, 2pm and 3pm. Each session has 12 places, so advance booking is essential.

Touchwood is also hosting Halloween face painting during the week and a roaming zombie disco on Friday, 30 October.

How to book: Visit Touchwood's Halloween events page.

4. Woodland Wizards at Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens

Where: Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens

When: Wednesday, 28 October and Thursday, 29 October

Price: From £3, with family tickets available

Younger children can get into the Halloween spirit with an outdoor session of magical woodland activities.

Woodland Wizards includes making nature wands, creating mythical creatures, mixing muddy potions and playing spooky games. Children are welcome to dress as their favourite witch or wizard.

The event is aimed at children aged three to nine with their accompanying adults. As the activities take place outdoors, families should dress for the weather.

How to book: Find Woodland Wizards tickets.

5. The Half-Term Witches' Trail at Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens

Where: Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens

When: Saturday, 24 October to Saturday, 31 October

Price: £4 for a child's entry including the trail; discounted entry is available for members.

Families looking for a more flexible activity can follow the Witches' Trail through the historic gardens.

Children must find six hidden creatures as they explore, making it an option for families who would rather enjoy a self-guided Halloween activity than book a timed evening event.

Drop-in crafts are also scheduled for Monday, 26 October, from noon to 2pm.

How to book: Check the Visit Solihull half-term guide for details before travelling.

6. The ScareCrawl in Solihull town centre

Where: Participating bars and venues in Solihull town centre

When: Friday, 30 October, from 6pm to 8pm

Price: Free wristband, with drinks and any purchases extra

Adults looking for something beyond family-friendly Halloween activities can join the ScareCrawl, organised by Solihull BID.

The event takes participants around participating town-centre bars and venues, with costumed characters including Freddy Krueger, Harley Quinn, clowns and werewolves appearing along the way.

A free wristband from participating venues may unlock special offers and surprises. Organisers describe it as an adults-only event, so it is not suitable for children.

How to find out more: Visit Solihull BID's ScareCrawl page.

7. A mystical woodland trail at Packwood House

Where: Packwood House, near Hockley Heath

When: Saturday, 24 October to Sunday, 1 November, 9.30am to 4pm

Price: £3.50 for the trail, plus normal admission for non-members

The National Trust's Mystical and Magical Woodland Trail offers a quieter alternative to the scarier Halloween attractions.

Children can search the woodland for autumn treasures and spooky surprises, with themed crafts during the half-term week and a prize for completing the trail.

It is a good option for families who want to spend time outdoors without committing to a late-night event.

How to find out more: Check the National Trust website before setting off.

What about Halloween itself?

Halloween falls on Saturday, 31 October this year. Berryfields Farm's pumpkin event and Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens' Witches' Trail both run through that date, while the Touchwood Minecraft sessions and lantern walks finish on Friday.

For those planning a night out, Solihull BID's ScareCrawl takes place on Friday, 30 October, rather than Halloween itself.

Tickets and availability can change quickly during half-term, so check the organisers' booking pages before travelling.

Whether you want a pumpkin-picking trip, a spooky evening with the children or a Halloween night out, there are several ways to get into the spirit across Solihull and its surrounding villages.
