Solihull Fire Station has launched a 10-day food bank collection to support local families ahead of this month's Solihull Food & Harvest Festival.
The fire station is working with Solihull BID to collect donations for the Colebridge Trust Food Bank, with a collection gazebo now set up outside Solihull Fire Station.
Residents can drop off donations from now until Sunday 27 September. Items placed in the gazebo will be collected each evening.
The appeal is separate from the fire station's annual Christmas food bank collection, which will still take place later this year.
What can you donate?
Residents are being asked to donate essential items including:
Tinned meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, soups and stews
Pasta, rice and pasta sauces
Long-life milk and fruit juice
Cooking oil, stock cubes, salt and pepper
Instant noodles, jelly, biscuits and custard
Toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and shampoo
Sanitary towels and tampons
Washing-up liquid and laundry detergent
Nappies and baby wipes
There will also be additional donation points at Howden Insurance, 46 Poplar Road, from 21 September, and at the Mell Square main stage during the festival weekend.
The Solihull Food & Harvest Festival takes place across the town centre from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September, with food, entertainment and live performances planned throughout the weekend.
Solihull firefighters and fire appliances will also be attending the festival on Sunday 27 September from 10am to 1pm, at the top of the High Street near The Mason's Arms.
The fire station is encouraging local residents to support the appeal, with donations going towards people and families who rely on food bank services across Solihull.
