Nominations have opened for the Solihull Civic Honours Awards 2027, giving residents the chance to recognise the local people and organisations who go above and beyond to help others.

From a neighbour who is always willing to lend a hand to volunteers supporting vulnerable residents, the awards celebrate the people whose kindness, commitment and hard work help make Solihull a better place to live.

Individuals, charities, community groups and organisations can all be nominated. Residents can also put themselves or their own group forward for consideration.

Last year's awards highlighted a range of inspiring contributions, including someone helping young people connect with their community through music and technology and a Community First Responder who volunteers to provide life-saving assistance during medical emergencies.

The 2027 awards will recognise achievements across several categories, covering everything from volunteering and community leadership to health, wellbeing and inclusion.

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Singh Marwa MBE JP, encouraged residents to take the opportunity to celebrate those who make a difference.

He said: “The Solihull Civic Honours Awards are a wonderful way of spotlighting the many individuals, groups, charities or organisations who go above and beyond to make our borough a better place.

“You might know someone who deserves to be recognised for their dedication and commitment or have a positive story of your own to share. Whichever it is, I would encourage you to take a moment to submit your nominations and help us celebrate those who truly make a difference in Solihull.”

Which awards can you nominate someone for?

The individual award categories include the Good Neighbour Award, recognising acts of kindness that make neighbourhoods better places to live, and the Volunteer Contribution Award, celebrating volunteers of any age who make an outstanding contribution.

The VCFSE Organisational Leadership Award recognises paid or unpaid leaders in the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector who strengthen their organisations and make a lasting impact.

Community groups and organisations can be nominated for the Small Community Group or Charity of the Year Award, the Health & Wellbeing Award and the Inclusive Communities Award. These celebrate work ranging from improving physical and mental health to creating welcoming communities where people feel valued and included.

There are also awards for innovation and support for young people.

The Community Innovation Award celebrates individuals and organisations introducing creative ideas to tackle community challenges, while the Community Parenting Award recognises those going the extra mile to support care-experienced children and young people.

The Mayor’s Award will also return, with the Mayor personally choosing a recipient who has made an outstanding contribution to Solihull or helped raise the borough’s profile. This category is not open to public nominations.
